Strength or Cardio first?

In this article we will break down whether you should do cardio or weights first?

Firstly, you have to understand how different energy systems in the body operate. The body has two primary energy systems available.

Firstly, we have the Anaerobic energy system which is energy produced from food we consumed without oxygen. The Anaerobic energy system is characterized as more powerful, less available and typically used for strength training. Muscle glycogen is the primary energy source which is a limited resource in our muscles.

Secondly, we have the Aerobic system which is energy produced from food we consumed with oxygen. The Aerobic system is characterized as less powerful, much more available as the body can use bodyfat as our energy and typically used for cardio/ slower exercise. Fat is the primary energy source and is a near-unlimited resource.

Now that we know the difference between the two primary energy systems we will further explain why strength cardio is the better option to be done first followed by cardio.

Strength training requires muscle glycogen which is a finite resource until bodyfat which is the primary resource for cardiovascular training.

Therefore we suggest undertaking strength exercises before cardiovascular training
